The Role of Consumers
Consumers Union is a nonprofit organization that provides information on consumer issues. It publishes Consumer Reports, a monthly magazine that contains results of its research and testing on consumer products. Along with testing products and informing the public, its basic mission is to empower consumers to protect themselves.
Policy analysts at Consumers Union research issues that affect consumers. They meet with Congress and the media concerning consumer-related public policy issues. Additional responsibilities include identifying opportunities for grassroots efforts and helping to build an activist base to promote public policy objectives, such as those for energy and environmental policies.
